Fiber Optic Signal Guts
Here is a picture of the inside of a pedestrian signal with fiber optic indications instead of incandescent bulbs. As you can see, there is no need for a reflector with this type of set up. The fiber optics come together in front of two bright halogen bulbs and carry the light from the bulbs to the front of the signal in different places to spell out the words WALK & DONT WALK.
